Manipur’s Sarungbam Athouba Meitei Shines at 38th National Games with Two Gold Medals

Imphal: Manipur’s Sarungbam Athouba Meitei made history at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, securing two gold medals in exceptional fashion.

On January 30, Athouba clinched his second gold in the Men’s Individual Duathlon, adding to his earlier triumph in the Men’s Individual Triathlon earlier this week.

Athouba’s stellar performance has helped Manipur surge to the second position on the medal tally board with an impressive total of 11 medals, including 6 gold and 5 silver.

Karnataka holds the top position, but Manipur’s achievement is remarkable, particularly given the state’s relatively small size and population.

Manipur’s success at the National Games isn’t confined to just one athlete, however.

The state has also been making waves in Wushu, with the champions bagging both gold and silver medals.

Four of Manipur’s athletes secured gold in Wushu, while five others brought home silver medals.

Sarungbam Athouba Meitei’s achievements are a testament to his dedication and talent, marking a historic moment for the state.

His first gold came on January 26, when he emerged victorious in the Men’s Individual Triathlon, while his fellow Manipuri athlete, Telheiba Soram, clinched a silver in the same event, resulting in a stellar 1-2 finish for the northeastern state.

As the games continue, Manipur’s athletes are setting an inspiring example of excellence and determination, and their efforts are sure to continue to make waves in the sporting world.
