Budget 2025: UDAN Scheme Expansion to Boost Regional Connectivity with 120 New Destinations

New Delhi – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2025 speech, announced a revamped UDAN scheme, aiming to strengthen regional air connectivity by introducing 120 new destinations across India.

The initiative is projected to enhance passenger capacity by 4 crore over the next decade.

The upgraded scheme will focus on improving access to remote and underserved regions, particularly in hilly areas, aspirational districts, and the Northeast.

Special provisions will be made to develop helipads and small airports to ensure seamless travel options for local communities and businesses.

Additionally, Sitharaman revealed plans for developing greenfield airports in Bihar, alongside the expansion of Patna airport and a brownfield airport in Bihta.

These projects are expected to enhance air connectivity and contribute to economic development in the state.

In a further push for infrastructure growth, the Finance Minister also announced financial support for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in Mithilanchal, a move aimed at boosting irrigation and benefiting thousands of farmers in the region.

The expansion of the UDAN scheme aligns with the government’s commitment to regional development, ensuring improved accessibility, economic opportunities, and a more integrated transportation network across India.
