Sikkim Government Distributes Free Textbooks and Uniforms to Over 40,000 Students
Gangtok: In a continued effort to enhance access to education, the Sikkim government distributed free textbooks and uniforms to students of all government schools across the state on the first day of the new academic session.
The initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden on families, benefited 40,968 students from 767 schools.
Officials from the education department emphasized the significance of this program, stating that the government remains committed to ensuring that every child starts the academic year with essential learning materials.
In a move toward inclusive education, monastic schools and Sanskrit pathshalas were also included in the distribution, reinforcing the state’s vision of holistic learning.
To ensure smooth execution, senior officials, including the Education Secretary, Principal Director, and district CEOs, were deployed to various schools, actively participating in the distribution process.
They also attended first-day ‘zero period’ sessions, engaging with students and teachers to mark the beginning of the new school year.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Sikkim government has undertaken the initiative, demonstrating its dedication to strengthening the education system.
By providing free educational resources, the government aims to remove economic barriers and create equal opportunities for students, irrespective of their background.
