Mizoram Ministers Respond to Show-Cause Notices Over MCC Violation Allegations
Aizawl: Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar has denied allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after receiving a show-cause notice from the State Election Commission.
The notice, also issued to PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, came in response to a complaint filed by the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) ahead of the Village Council and Local Council elections scheduled for February 12.
The MNF alleged that Vanlalhlana engaged in virtual campaigning from his ministerial office for Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidates in Aizawl’s Durtlang local council, with a video clip of the incident circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, Hmar was accused of announcing development projects while meeting ZPM candidates in his constituency on January 27, allegedly breaching MCC provisions.
Addressing a function at the ZPM office in Aizawl, Hmar dismissed the accusations, stating that the projects he mentioned were already approved and did not constitute new announcements.
Both ministers submitted their explanations to the State Election Commission on Monday.
State Election Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana confirmed that the commission is reviewing the responses and will make a decision soon.
