Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Wednesday reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and providing essential services, including roads, electricity, and water, as top priorities.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Sikkim Assembly, he assured that the administration remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents through targeted welfare measures.
During his speech, Mathur highlighted various ongoing development initiatives, underscoring the government’s proactive approach to ensuring seamless access to fundamental services.
His address reflected the state’s focus on sustainable growth and improved living conditions for its citizens.
Marking a personal note during the session, the governor extended birthday wishes to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who turned 57 on Wednesday.
In a warm gesture, he prayed for Tamang’s well-being and presented him with sweets on the occasion.
The session commenced with the swearing-in of newly elected legislators Aditya Golay from the Soreng-Chakung seat and Satish Chandra Rai from the Namchi-Singithang constituency.
The House also observed a condolence motion to honor former MLA Thutob Bhutia.
A total of seven bills were tabled and debated during the proceedings, including the Sikkim Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Sikkim Public Demands Recovery (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Sikkim Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
At the end of the day-long session, Speaker M. N. Sherpa adjourned the House sine die, concluding an assembly that reaffirmed the government’s focus on infrastructure, governance, and public welfare.
