Security Forces Seize 1560 Bottles of Codeine-Based Cough Syrup in Manipur, One Arrested

Jiribam: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, security forces in Manipur intercepted a truck in Jiribam district and seized 1560 bottles of ‘WINCEREX’ cough syrup containing codeine phosphate. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel launched a targeted operation at Leingangpokpi under the jurisdiction of Jiribam Police Station.

During the inspection, authorities discovered 13 boxes concealed inside the vehicle, containing the cough syrup, which is known to be abused as a narcotic substance. The arrested truck driver has been identified as 52-year-old Maibam Premjit Singh.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered at Jiribam Police Station, and further investigations are underway to uncover the supply chain and possible networks involved in the smuggling. Officials suspect the consignment was destined for illegal distribution, contributing to the growing concern over pharmaceutical drug abuse in the region.

Meanwhile, security forces in Manipur have intensified their vigilance to maintain law and order across the state. In a series of coordinated operations, search and area domination exercises were conducted in vulnerable hill and valley districts. Strict security measures were implemented along major highways, ensuring the safe movement of essential goods. A total of 307 vehicles on NH-2 and 182 vehicles on NH-37 were monitored, with security convoys deployed along sensitive stretches.

As part of the ongoing security efforts, authorities have also set up 109 checkpoints across various districts to curb illegal activities. The heightened surveillance aims to deter smuggling, enhance public safety, and reinforce law enforcement presence in the region.
