Four Arrested for Trafficking Methamphetamine and Heroin in Mizoram
Aizawl: Mizoram authorities have arrested three Myanmar nationals and one resident of Assam in two separate drug trafficking operations. The busts were carried out by the Excise Department, in collaboration with Assam Rifles personnel, on February 6, 2025.
In the first operation, a total of 20,200 methamphetamine tablets, weighing 2.2 kg, were seized in Zote Tiau village, located near the Myanmar border in Champhai district. The drugs, commonly referred to as “crazy drug,” are highly addictive stimulants that are banned in India. Two Myanmar nationals, Sumlamthang (35) and Zamngaihno (36), both from Myanmar’s Chin state, were arrested for allegedly trafficking the methamphetamine into India.
In a second operation, excise officials recovered 246 grams of heroin from the possession of three individuals in Aizawl’s Khatla area. The arrested suspects include Kapchina (34) from Myanmar’s Chin state and Naman Uddin (32) from Eraligool village in Assam’s Karimganj district. The authorities also seized two vehicles used for transporting the narcotics.
The arrested individuals have been charged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. They were produced before district courts in Champhai and Aizawl, and have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
