Meghalaya Launches Specialized Health Shuttle Service to Improve Medical Access

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh launched a fleet of specialized health shuttles today to enhance medical transportation in the state.

The initiative, which includes five Urbania vans and five air-conditioned buses, is operated by PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital under USTM.

This new transport service will cover a 50-kilometre radius around the USTM campus and also provide connectivity between Shillong City and PIMC. The goal is to bridge the healthcare access gap between rural and urban areas.

The launch of the shuttle service addresses transportation challenges that often hinder residents from receiving timely medical care. By offering dedicated medical transport, the state government aims to eliminate distance as a barrier for patients seeking treatment.

The service is expected to greatly benefit elderly patients and those from remote areas, particularly during medical emergencies. The air-conditioned buses will ensure a comfortable ride, especially during summer months.
