Manipur: Kangpokpi District Marks 10 Years of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ with Women-Led Bike Rally
Imphal: In a powerful celebration of a decade of progress in girl child empowerment, the District Administration Kangpokpi and the District Programme Officer (DPO), ICDS Cell Kangpokpi, organized a high-impact bike rally at the Kangpokpi District Headquarters.
The event was part of a series of awareness programs across Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District, marking the 10th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) campaign—India’s flagship initiative to promote gender equality, female education, and child welfare.
The rally commenced from the SP Kangpokpi office and concluded at the Kangpokpi Police Station, with women police officers leading the charge.
Key women officials from ICDS Project Kangpokpi, including Boishi Haokip, Chongboi Kipgen, Mawinu Gangte, and Lamhen Hangshing, actively participated, reinforcing the message of women’s leadership and empowerment.
The rally, adorned with banners carrying slogans like ‘Save Girl Child, Educate Girl Child,’ sent a strong message to the community about the importance of equal opportunities for girls.
The event was officially flagged off by Samuel Misao, AC to DC/SDO Lhungtin, in the presence of Lhunkhopao Touthang, SDC-HQ Kangpokpi.
The active involvement of district authorities and law enforcement highlighted the government’s commitment to advancing the BBBP campaign at the grassroots level. Local residents gathered along the rally route to witness the women-led initiative, further amplifying the message of education and protection for girls.
Since its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015, the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign has played a crucial role in addressing gender imbalances, particularly the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR).
Operated through a tri-ministerial collaboration between the Ministries of Women & Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development, the initiative has driven significant progress in promoting female literacy and challenging gender biases.
Despite these strides, challenges persist, especially in rural areas where deep-rooted patriarchal norms and economic hardships continue to hinder progress.
The Kangpokpi rally serves as a powerful reminder that sustained efforts, community engagement, and government support are essential in ensuring lasting change.
The participation of women police officers leading the rally symbolized the transformative power of education and empowerment, demonstrating that given equal opportunities, women can thrive in leadership, governance, and law enforcement.
As Kangpokpi and the rest of India reflect on a decade of BBBP, the message remains clear: Empowering girls strengthens the future of the nation. With continued awareness, policy reforms, and active community involvement, the campaign will remain a beacon of hope for millions of girls across the country.
