Meghalaya CM Congratulates Rev. Bernard Laloo on Appointment as Auxiliary Bishop
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has lauded the appointment of Rev. Bernard Laloo as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong.
The announcement was made by Pope Francis in Rome on February 8, marking a significant milestone in the religious leadership of Meghalaya.
Rev. Laloo, who previously served as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, has been elevated to the position of Auxiliary Bishop. His appointment is seen as a recognition of his dedicated service to the Church and his contributions to the faith community.
Taking to his official X handle, Chief Minister Sangma extended his heartfelt congratulations, offering prayers for Rev. Laloo’s new role. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations and prayers for his new role. May God bless him with wisdom, strength, and guidance as he embarks on this important journey of service to the Church and its faithful,” he wrote.
Born on June 16 in Laitlyngkot, Meghalaya, Rev. Laloo was ordained a priest in 2006 for the Archdiocese of Shillong. Over the years, he has been actively involved in various religious and social initiatives, including serving as a Board Member of Caritas India from 2021 to 2024. Since 2022, he has held the dual roles of Chancellor of the Archdiocese and Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians in Laitumkhrah.
Rev. Laloo’s appointment as Auxiliary Bishop is expected to further strengthen the spiritual leadership in Shillong, fostering growth and guidance for the faithful under his care.
