Meghalaya: CID Seeks More Time to Probe Multi-Crore Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura Road Scam
Shillong: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has indicated that it requires additional time to complete its probe into the alleged multi-crore scam linked to the construction of the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road. The investigation was formally handed over to the CID following an order from Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP), Idashisha Nongrang.
The case, filed in September 2024 by the Chief Engineer of the PWD (Roads) under state government directives, accuses nine individuals, including contractors, senior government engineers, and corporate officials, of misappropriating project funds. The project, originally scheduled for completion in 2014, has faced multiple cost revisions, escalating to ₹2,366.77 crore.
According to media reports, the CID is actively scrutinizing financial records and project documents to determine the extent of fund mismanagement. With the investigation still in progress, officials have emphasized the complexity of the case, citing the need for a detailed forensic audit and examination of key stakeholders involved in the project’s execution.
The prolonged delay in completing the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road has been a persistent concern, with allegations of financial irregularities adding to public frustration. As the CID continues its investigation, pressure mounts on authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in one of Meghalaya’s largest infrastructure projects.
