Renowned Litterateur Pachugopal Chakraborty Receives Prestigious Sitanath Brahma Choudhury Award
Guwahati: Renowned litterateur and former vice-president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Pachugopal Chakraborty, has been awarded the prestigious Sitanath Brahma Choudhury Award (2023-2025) for his book “Asomor Adirup Pragjyotish, Lohitya and Kamrup-Kamota.”
The award was handed over by Dr Upendrajit Sharma, former general secretary of Asom Sahitya Sabha, at Chakraborty’s residence in Dhubri.
At 88, Chakraborty remains a towering figure in Assamese literature, with numerous works that have deepened the understanding of the state’s linguistic and cultural evolution.
His latest book explores the ancient regions of Pragjyotish, Lohitya, and Kamrup-Kamota, shedding light on Assam’s historical and cultural transformations.
Scholars and literary critics have praised his research-driven narrative, which adds significant depth to the study of Assamese heritage.
The Sitanath Brahma Choudhury Award is one of Assam’s most esteemed literary honours, recognising contributions that leave a lasting impact on historical and literary discourse. Chakraborty’s recognition underlines his lifelong commitment to preserving and documenting Assam’s rich past.
