Tripura: CPI(M) Leader Jitendra Chaudhury Calls for Reflection on Delhi Election Results
Agartala: Tripura Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury stated that the Delhi Assembly election results would serve as a subject for deep analysis and reflection for political parties across the country.
Speaking to reporters, Chaudhury acknowledged that in its 12-year rule, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) introduced a unique governance model, delivering substantial improvements in electricity, water supply, education, and healthcare.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had been out of power in Delhi for over 26 years, staged a dramatic comeback in the elections, securing a two-thirds majority. The victory was largely credited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign strategy, which aggressively criticized AAP’s governance and alleged mismanagement.
Chaudhury asserted that despite immense pressure from the Union government, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his team managed to deliver impactful policies. He also alleged that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi attempted to obstruct AAP’s governance while AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, were jailed on politically motivated charges.
“The AAP government continued to function despite facing enormous challenges. This proves that if there is political will, a government can still bring meaningful change in essential services for its people,” said Chaudhury.
Addressing the division among anti-BJP forces, he argued that a united opposition, particularly under the INDIA bloc, could have prevented BJP from winning at least 14 seats. He stressed that lack of a cohesive anti-BJP alliance played a significant role in AAP’s defeat.
“The split in the anti-BJP vote bank allowed BJP to gain an advantage. The initial analysis suggests that BJP would not have won at least 14 seats if the opposition had formed a strong electoral alliance,” he added.
Chaudhury concluded by emphasizing the need for political introspection and strategic realignment among opposition parties to effectively counter the BJP in future elections.
