Assam: BPF Celebrates 23rd BTC Accord Day, Hagrama Mohilary Confident of Electoral Comeback

Assam: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) marked the 23rd BTC Accord Day, commemorating the signing of the historic 2nd Bodo Peace Accord on February 10, 2003.

The celebration, held with enthusiasm, highlighted the party’s continued commitment to the agreement that led to the creation of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

As part of the event, BPF President and former BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary paid floral tributes and garlanded the statue of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma at the BTC Secretariat premises.

Accompanied by party members, Mohilary later visited the Bodoland Martyrs’ Cemetery in Debargaon, where he hoisted the national flag and paid homage to fallen heroes of the movement.

Speaking at the occasion, Mohilary reaffirmed BPF’s commitment to observing BTC Accord Day every year. He also made a bold political statement, claiming that Chandan Brahma and Khampa Borgoyary, who joined the UPPL, remain in touch with him and report to him daily. He expressed confidence that both leaders would return to the BPF fold soon.

Looking ahead to the upcoming BTC elections, Mohilary asserted that BPF would win 25 seats and reclaim power. He further accused BTC Chief Executive Member Promod Boro of transferring 16 departments to Dispur, vowing that if BPF returns to power, those departments will be reinstated under BTC’s control.

Adding to the celebrations, a motorcycle rally was organized from BPF block offices in Fakiragram, Dotma, Banargaon, Narabari, Salakati, and Tinali, culminating at Debargaon.

The BTC Accord, signed on February 10, 2003, was a crucial milestone in the Bodo peace process, establishing the BTC as an autonomous administrative body. BPF has observed the day annually to commemorate the accord and its role in shaping the region’s political and developmental landscape.
