Manipur Police Crack Down on Militants, Arrest Four in Multiple Operations
Imphal: Manipur Police launched a series of coordinated operations, leading to the arrest of four active militants from Imphal West and Tengnoupal districts. The operations targeted members of proscribed militant outfits involved in extortion and insurgency-related activities.
In Imphal West district, police arrested two active cadres of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Apunba) from Rupmahal Tank under City Police Station. The individuals, identified as Haobam Malemnganba Singh (22) and Sharuk Ahmed (18), were engaged in extortion activities, demanding money from businesses in the area. Authorities recovered two mobile handsets, a two-wheeler, and a side bag from their possession.
In a separate operation on February 9, security forces arrested two more active militants, one each from United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K) and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Nameirakpam Robert Meitei (26) of UNLF-K and Mangshatabam Milanchandra Singh (28) of PREPAK were apprehended from BP-85 under Tengnoupal Police Station. Security personnel recovered Myanmar currency worth 7,500 Kyat from them.
Additionally, in another raid on February 9, police arrested Thangkholal Haokip (35) from Kawnpui, Churachandpur, for his involvement in weapon trafficking. The operation led to the seizure of a Colt 7.65mm Auto Pistol, a country-made 9mm pistol, three magazines, 16 live rounds of ammunition, a pistol holster, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone.
These targeted crackdowns highlight Manipur Police’s intensified efforts to curb insurgency, illegal arms trade, and extortion activities, ensuring law and order in the state.
