Assam: Manas Tiger Reserve Officers Receive Advanced Training in Wildlife Crime Investigation
Guwahati: In a bid to bolster wildlife protection efforts, investigating officers from Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam recently underwent advanced training on inquiry and examination of wildlife-related cases. The five-day refresher course, conducted in the Bansbari range, saw the participation of 27 officers from six forest divisions within the park.
Organized by the Field Directorate of Manas Tiger Reserve in collaboration with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the training focused on enhancing the officers’ expertise in crucial areas such as investigation techniques, evidence collection, and the framing of wildlife offences. The curriculum incorporated the latest amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as well as recent revisions to criminal laws and procedures.
The training sessions also covered updates on relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), aiming to equip officers with the most current legal knowledge. Field Director C Ramesh emphasized the importance of this training, stating that it is an integral part of the ongoing effort to enhance the skills and knowledge of investigating officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the evolving challenges in wildlife crime investigation.
