Manipur Congress MLA Questions Sambit Patra’s Visit Amid Leadership Crisis
Imphal: Manipur Congress MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar has expressed skepticism about the purpose of BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra’s visit to the state.
Lokeshwar questioned whether Patra intends to resolve the ongoing leadership crisis in the state. “It is really unfortunate for the BJP leaders to be unable to select their own Chief Minister and convene the assembly session,” Lokeshwar stated.
The Congress legislator emphasized that Patra should have taken the lead in appointing a new Chief Minister by discussing with the BJP MLAs.
Instead, Lokeshwar believes Patra’s visit aims to ensure that there is no assembly session, and the issues of the state remain sidelined. “So far, he has not made any comment either,” Lokeshwar added.
Lokeshwar also criticized the Governor’s decision to declare the Assembly session “null and void,” stating that such an action has never been heard of in any other state.
Furthermore, he warned that if President’s Rule is imposed, the political scenario will change completely, and the internal conflict within the BJP-led government will come under scrutiny.
Patra had met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, but the outcome of their discussions is not yet known.
This meeting follows the resignation of N Biren Singh as the Chief Minister of Manipur on February 9, amidst a leadership crisis and ethnic violence in the state.
