BJP Assam Faces Scrutiny Over Delayed Appointment of Dhubri District President

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is under growing pressure to appoint a new district president for Dhubri, with over a month having passed since Prakash Kali’s appointment was revoked in December 2024. This delay has led to speculation and frustration among party workers and supporters, with three main contenders emerging: Prakash Kali, Amit Chakravorty, and Biswajeet Roy.

Prakash Kali, a dedicated BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, has been active in the party since his youth. His grassroots involvement and organizational experience make him a strong candidate. However, the party’s sudden reversal on his appointment has left his political future uncertain.

Amit Chakravorty, another frontrunner, boasts over two decades of experience with the RSS and BJP. His leadership roles, including Dhubri Nagar Prachar Pramukh and Dhubri Zila Prachar Pramukh, have earned him strong support from those advocating for a structured and strategic leadership approach.

Biswajeet Roy, the third key contender, brings significant political experience and organizational backing to the table. His influence within the party and ability to mobilize support make him a strong candidate, with his supporters arguing that his leadership could solidify the BJP’s presence in Dhubri.

The delay in announcing a district president has sparked speculation about internal party dynamics and community politics at play. Dhubri, with its significant Bengali and Rajbongshi populations, has historically seen power struggles between these groups. The BJP leadership in Assam is reportedly navigating these complexities to ensure a politically balanced decision.

As the wait continues, the political future of BJP in Dhubri hangs in the balance. The party’s choice will not only shape its district leadership but also impact its broader strategy in the region. With growing pressure from party workers and supporters, the BJP leadership will have to make a decision soon.
