Rahul Gandhi Calls President’s Rule in Manipur a ‘Belated Admission’ of BJP’s Failure
Imphal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed the BJP government over the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, calling it a “belated admission” of the party’s inability to govern the violence-hit state. The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha made his remarks on social media, holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly responsible for the situation.
In a post on X, Gandhi stated that the BJP’s move to impose central rule in Manipur was an acknowledgment of its governance failure. He also took aim at PM Modi, questioning his continued absence from the conflict-ridden state. “Now, PM Modi can no longer deny his direct responsibility for Manipur,” he wrote, further asking, “Has he finally made up his mind to visit the state and explain his plan to restore peace and normalcy?”
The Congress has repeatedly accused the BJP of mishandling the situation in Manipur, claiming that the Central government only acted after irreparable damage had been done to the state’s social fabric. The decision to impose President’s Rule came days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resignation, which created political uncertainty in the region.
With the Manipur Assembly now under suspended animation, political tensions continue to escalate, as opposition parties intensify their criticism of the BJP-led government’s failure to manage the crisis.
