President’s Rule Imposed in Manipur; Speculation Mounts on PM Modi’s Address

Imphal: With the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, speculations are rife that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may finally address the ongoing crisis that has plagued the state for months.

The decision to dissolve the state government comes amidst escalating ethnic violence and deteriorating law and order.

Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh stated that the Union Government was compelled to impose President’s Rule due to the prevailing ground realities and the failures of both the state government and the Centre in mitigating the crisis.

He expressed hope that PM Modi would now address the situation and potentially visit the state to assess the ground realities.

The Home Ministry’s decision brings the state under direct central rule, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla assuming administrative responsibilities on behalf of the President of India.

The state legislative assembly stands suspended, and governance will now be directly overseen by the Centre. Despite mounting pressure from opposition leaders and civil society groups, PM Modi has largely remained silent on the Manipur situation since the outbreak of violence last year.

However, political analysts believe that with the state now under direct central control, the Prime Minister may be compelled to break his silence and outline the government’s roadmap for restoring peace and stability in the region.

Security measures have been further intensified following the imposition of President’s Rule. As the state grapples with the challenges of restoring normalcy, all eyes are now on PM Modi’s next move, as the nation awaits his response to one of the most critical governance challenges of his tenure.
