Assam Prepares for Tourism Boom Ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit

Guwahati – Assam is set to host over 10,000 tourists during the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to establish itself as a premier travel destination.

The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who highlighted Assam’s remarkable tourism revival over the past few years.

The northeastern state welcomed 7.6 million domestic tourists and 26,000 international visitors in 2023, a significant leap from the 8,000-10,000 foreign tourists it used to attract annually before 2021. Dass credited the surge to improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and strategic tourism promotions that have positioned Assam as a compelling destination for travelers.

In a bid to showcase Assam’s diverse landscapes and cultural heritage, the state will introduce helicopter services for summit attendees, offering aerial views of key attractions. “We want visitors to experience Assam’s unique beauty from a different perspective,” Dass said, addressing the media in Guwahati.

To accommodate the influx of guests, hotels across all categories—including five-star properties—have been mobilized. The tourism department has also curated post-event sightseeing packages, ensuring that summit delegates explore Assam’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

The state’s dramatic tourism turnaround comes after years of struggling to attract visitors due to political unrest and frequent protests. With improved stability, Dass emphasized how Assam has transitioned from a protest-prone region to an emerging tourism hotspot. He underscored the government’s long-term strategy to leverage high-profile events like Advantage Assam 2.0 to drive sustained growth in the tourism sector.

As anticipation builds, Assam is gearing up to put its best foot forward, aiming to leave a lasting impression on visitors and further establish itself as a must-visit destination in India’s tourism landscape.
