Assam CM Announces Progress on Jorhat-Majuli Bridge, EFC Meeting Set for February 28
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced significant progress in resuming construction on the long-awaited Jorhat-Majuli bridge.
The selection process for a new contractor is in its final stages, with an Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting scheduled for February 28, 2025, to discuss the Revised Cost Estimate of the project.
In a statement, CM Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the vital infrastructure project. He emphasized that swift progress is being made, and with a new contractor set to be appointed soon, the project is on track to resume work.
The EFC meeting, chaired by the Secretary of Road Transport & Highways, will take place at 10:00 AM on February 28, with stakeholders expected to participate via video conferencing.
The Jorhat-Majuli bridge, spanning 6,812.5 meters along NH-715K, is a crucial connectivity initiative linking Majuli, the world’s largest river island, with Jorhat.
The two-lane major bridge over the Brahmaputra River is expected to significantly improve transportation, benefiting residents, businesses, and economic activities in the region.
The project has been a long-standing demand of the people of Assam, and its completion is expected to bring much-needed relief to commuters who currently rely on ferry services.
With the appointment of a new contractor and financial discussions progressing, the government’s renewed efforts are expected to accelerate construction in the coming months, fulfilling its commitment to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the state.
