Manipur Police Arrest Nine Militants in Statewide Crackdown on Insurgent Groups

Imphal: Manipur Police carried out a series of coordinated operations across the state on February 14, resulting in the arrest of nine active militants from different proscribed groups involved in extortion, kidnapping, and arms transportation. The crackdown marks a significant step in tackling insurgency-related crimes in the region.

In Imphal East district, four active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG) were arrested from Khabeisoi 7 MR Gate near an auto-rickshaw parking area. The arrested individuals were identified as Lanpoklakpam Sanathoi Meitei (23), Sanabam Amitkumar Singh (40), Seram Prem Singh (49), and Md. Ithem (55). They were allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public, government officials, and petrol stations. Police recovered a two-wheeler, three mobile phones, and two wallets from their possession.

In Thoubal district, police arrested four active cadres of KCP-Noyon for their role in kidnapping and extortion. The individuals, Laikhuram Sanatomba Singh (22), Lourembam Suraj Singh (26), Thokchom Thoithoinganba Meitei (22), and Heikhrujam Ngongo (34), were apprehended from Heirok Pt-II Chingdompok area under Heirok Police Station. Authorities seized seven mobile handsets with SIM cards, a sling bag, and a four-wheeler from the group.

On the same day, another operation in Imphal East district led to the arrest of a United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei) militant, Okram Aboy Meitei (37), from Nungoi Awang Leikai near Tera Makhong under Lamlai Police Station. He was allegedly involved in extortion and the transportation of arms and ammunition in Imphal city. Police recovered a .32 pistol loaded with three live rounds and a mobile phone from his possession.

The recent arrests highlight Manipur Police’s intensified efforts to curb insurgency and dismantle militant networks operating in the state. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enhancing security measures and taking strict action against insurgent activities in the region.
