Kuki-Zo MLAs Welcome Suspension of Manipur Assembly, Urge Centre for Political Roadmap
Imphal: Ten Kuki-Zo MLAs in Manipur have welcomed the Centre’s decision to place the state Assembly under suspended animation, calling it a crucial step towards restoring stability. In a joint statement, the legislators urged the Government of India to formulate a comprehensive political roadmap that ensures lasting peace and justice for the affected communities.
Amid ongoing ethnic tensions, the MLAs emphasized the urgency of a negotiated settlement to resolve the deep-rooted crisis. They called for time-bound measures to address the suffering of conflict-affected populations and internally displaced people, stressing that decisive intervention from New Delhi is necessary to restore normalcy and protect their community’s rights.
The move comes after President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. With the state’s political future uncertain, the MLAs’ appeal signals a growing demand for a structured resolution that guarantees security and stability.
“We… while acknowledging the Centre’s decision to place the Assembly under suspended animation, express hope that the Government of India would lay out a comprehensive political roadmap for peace and justice under a negotiated settlement,” the statement read. The legislators also urged the government to ensure swift measures to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons caught in the prolonged conflict.
As tensions persist, the focus now shifts to the Centre’s next move in addressing the crisis and shaping Manipur’s political trajectory.
