Manipur: Kuki-Zo Council Announces Peaceful Rally on February 18 for Separate Administration
Churachandpur: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has announced a ‘Peaceful Rally for Immediate Political Solution’ on February 18 across all Kuki-Zo inhabited districts, intensifying their demand for a separate administration—Union Territory with Legislature. The rally aims to press the Central government for urgent action on their long-standing political aspirations.
The decision was finalized during KZC’s meetings on February 8 and 11 in Churachandpur, entrusting several prominent tribal organizations to lead the demonstrations in their respective regions. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) will oversee the rally in Churachandpur, while the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) and Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills will lead in Kangpokpi. Similar mobilizations will take place in Pherzawl, Jiribam, Tengnoupal (Moreh), and Chandel, with Kuki-Zo organizations in Delhi and NCR also set to participate.
The rally will focus on five key demands, including a formal discussion of the Kuki-Zo issue in Parliament, the grant of a separate administration, opposition to border fencing without a political resolution, and justice regarding the controversial ‘Biren Audio Tapes.’
Organizers have emphasized a disciplined and peaceful demonstration, with strict guidelines prohibiting hate speech and personal attacks. Participants are advised to wear black attire as a symbol of unity and resistance, and Indian flags will be prominently displayed to reaffirm their commitment to democratic processes. A uniform banner, digital visuals, and a press statement will be provided by KZC to ensure consistency in messaging.
Following the rally, a memorandum outlining their demands will be submitted to the Home Minister, with each district forwarding its copy through the respective Deputy Commissioner. The Kuki-Zo Council has called upon all supporters to join and make this one of the most unified demonstrations in their ongoing struggle for self-governance.
