Assam MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa to Represent India at 15th APA Plenary in Azerbaijan
Guwahati – Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, the Member of Parliament from Kaziranga, has been nominated to represent India at the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and the APA Executive Council meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The nomination came from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Tasa will lead the Indian delegation during the prestigious international forum. The session, which will run from February 18 to February 20, will see discussions on several critical global and regional issues among the 43 APA member countries from across the Asian continent.
The APA plays a vital role in fostering parliamentary cooperation among Asian nations. During this plenary session, the Indian delegation will participate in deliberations on 28 key topics, including economic cooperation, security, and regional integration.
In a related development, Speaker Om Birla recently announced the expansion of translation services in India’s Parliament. Six new languages — Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Urdu, and Sanskrit — will be added to the existing set of translations. This initiative is aimed at enhancing accessibility for MPs and the general public while promoting India’s linguistic diversity. Furthermore, efforts are underway to introduce simultaneous translations in 16 more languages, contingent on the availability of human resources.
Tasa’s participation in the APA session marks a significant diplomatic engagement for India, underscoring the nation’s proactive role in shaping international discourse within Asia.
