YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani Seeks Anticipatory Bail Amid “India’s Got Latent” Controversy
Guwahati: Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has moved the Gauhati High Court seeking anticipatory bail in response to an FIR lodged against him and several other social media personalities.
The controversy surrounds their appearance on the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent,” where they allegedly promoted obscenity and engaged in sexually explicit discussions.
The group, including YouTubers Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and comedian Samay Raina, faced backlash after their comments on the show were deemed inappropriate and offensive.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the registration of the FIR on February 10, which invoked multiple sections of various laws, including the BNS 2023, IT Act of 2000, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act of 1986.
Guwahati’s Joint Police Commissioner, Ankur Jain, stated that the police are identifying all individuals involved, with Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia being focal points of the investigation. The police have emphasized their commitment to taking strict measures against those found guilty of promoting obscene content.
In response to the FIR, Ashish Chanchlani has sought anticipatory bail, citing concerns over potential arrest. His legal team awaits the court’s decision, which will determine the course of the investigation and potential consequences for the involved parties. This incident has sparked a broader debate about online content regulation, free speech, and the accountability of online creators.
