Manipur Police Arrest RPF/PLA Member in Major Crackdown on Insurgency

Imphal: In a decisive action against insurgent activities, Manipur Police have apprehended an active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The suspect, Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma alias Nanda (56), was arrested from Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, Imphal East.

According to officials, Sharma was involved in extorting money from the general public, government officials, and educational institutions, including schools and colleges. His activities had reportedly been a source of intimidation and financial strain for multiple institutions.

During the operation, authorities also seized a mobile phone from his possession, which is expected to aid in the ongoing investigation. Police are now working to trace his network and identify other possible associates linked to insurgent financing and operations.

The arrest marks a significant step in Manipur’s ongoing efforts to combat insurgency, with security forces maintaining strict vigilance to curb unlawful activities in the region.
