Security Forces Intensify Crackdown on Crime in Manipur; Major Arrests and Seizures Reported
Imphal: Manipur’s security forces continue their relentless crackdown on criminal activities, with multiple arrests and significant seizures reported in recent operations.
In a major breakthrough, a suspect identified as Lamkhogin Dimngel from Kangchup Patjang, Kangpokpi district, was apprehended during a routine check near Sangai University, close to Kaparang village, Churachandpur district.
Authorities seized Rs 34.2 lakh in unaccounted cash, 24 grams of suspected brown sugar hidden in two soap cases, three mobile phones, and a wallet containing an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and voter ID. A four-wheeler vehicle and one live round of an unidentified caliber were also confiscated from the suspect.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation to determine the source of the cash, narcotics, and other recovered items. Officials are probing possible links to illegal drug trade and organized crime networks.
Meanwhile, in an earlier operation, security personnel destroyed approximately 10 acres of illegally cultivated poppy plants in the Khudei Laipham hill range under Tengnoupal Police Station.
Authorities have registered a case and are working to identify those responsible for the illicit cultivation, signaling a strong crackdown on narcotics production in the region.
Additionally, Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Monday, February 17. The suspect, Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma alias Nanda (56), was taken into custody from Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, in Imphal East.
Authorities revealed that Sharma was involved in extorting money from the general public, government officials, and educational institutions, including schools and colleges. His arrest is seen as a significant step in disrupting insurgency-linked financial networks in the state.
The recent operations reflect the government’s commitment to tackling crime, drug trafficking, and insurgency-related activities in Manipur, as security forces intensify their vigilance and enforcement measures across the region.
