Severe Manpower Shortage Hits Assam’s Key Industries Office Amid Push for Industrial Growth

Abhayapuri: Even as the Assam government gears up for Advantage Assam 2.0 to boost industrial growth, a critical office under the Department of Industries and Commerce in Bongaigaon district is struggling due to a severe manpower shortage.

The Office of the Assistant Director of Industries and Commerce in Abhayapuri, which requires five employees, is currently operating with just one staff member, as the remaining four have been reassigned to other departments. The shortage has severely hampered service delivery, making it difficult for local entrepreneurs to access government schemes and business support.

Adding to the crisis, the office is in a state of neglect, with important documents scattered and the premises covered in dust, reflecting poor administrative upkeep. Many aspiring entrepreneurs visiting the office leave disappointed, unable to receive assistance due to the lack of personnel.

With only one person managing the entire office, concerns are mounting over the government’s commitment to streamlining industrial policies at the grassroots level. Stakeholders have urged the authorities to urgently address the issue before it undermines the state’s industrial development goals under Advantage Assam 2.0.
