Historic Moment as Assam Assembly Budget Session Held in Kokrajhar for the First Time
Kokrajhar — In a groundbreaking move, the Assam Assembly’s budget session was held in Kokrajhar for the first time, marking a historic event for the Bodoland region. Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), celebrated the occasion as a symbol of lasting peace in the region and an important step towards its development.
Boro expressed his pride over the assembly session being hosted in Kokrajhar, noting that it was the first time the legislative proceedings were held outside of Dispur. He emphasized that this event would strengthen Assam’s unity and integrity, addressing the longstanding concerns of the region’s neglect. “At the regional level, there was a thought that the government was not concerned about Bodoland, but this session proves otherwise,” Boro remarked, pointing out the importance of discussing key issues such as the Sixth Schedule and regional concerns with government officials.
Looking ahead, Boro conveyed his optimism for Bodoland’s future, stating that the region would play a crucial role in Assam’s development. With national ambitions such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat” and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s initiatives to push Assam towards development, Boro expressed confidence that the five districts of Bodoland would be an integral part of the state’s growth process.
Reflecting on the region’s transformation over the past five years, Boro noted the significant shift from violence to peace. “There was a time when violence ruled this area, and people were afraid to come here. But in the last five years, peace has prevailed,” he said, highlighting the region’s successful journey towards stability and progress.
During the session, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was present at the event, announced a significant investment of Rs 27 crore for the renovation of rural roads in Kokrajhar. Sarma also visited the Jarbari-Dighli area to assess ongoing infrastructure projects, reaffirming the Assam government’s commitment to improving connectivity and building a stronger infrastructure network in the region.
The budget session in Kokrajhar not only marked a historic first for Assam but also underscored the growing importance of Bodoland in the state’s political and developmental landscape.
