Union Minister Pabitra Margherita Walks the Ramp at Bharat Tex 2025, Showcases India’s Sustainable Weaves

Shillong: Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita took center stage at Bharat Tex 2025, walking the ramp in a celebration of India’s rich textile heritage.

The grand event, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, served as a platform to highlight sustainable and indigenous weaves.

Draped in a traditional Eri silk shawl and waistcoat, Margherita participated in the ‘Earthloom – Threads of Heritage’ fashion sequence, curated by Shillong-based designer Daniel Syiem. Sharing his experience on social media, he expressed pride in wearing Eri silk, a fabric deeply rooted in India’s culture.

“It was indeed a proud moment to wear our identity, the Eri silk, at the show and present it to a diverse audience,” the minister posted on X, accompanied by a video of his runway appearance.

Reflecting on the experience, Margherita—who studied textiles before entering politics—shared how the moment transported him back to his younger days. “Strutting down the runway reminded me of my younger days, only this time, the spotlight was on our weavers and designers and their timeless creations,” he remarked.

The *four-day event, running from February 14-17, brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and buyers, fostering discussions on sustainability, circularity, and digitization in textiles. Organized by the Aalekh Foundation and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, the showcase featured fabric testing zones, product demonstrations, and masterclasses by craft experts.

Building on its inaugural edition’s success, Bharat Tex 2025 reinforced India’s position as a leader in sustainable textile manufacturing, solidifying its role in the global value chain.
