Mizoram: Security Forces Seize Major Heroin Consignment in Champhai District

Aizawl: In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics smuggling, Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police intercepted a major consignment of heroin in Mizoram’s Champhai district on February 18. The seizure took place in Zokhawthar, a known hotspot for illegal drug trafficking, following a meticulously planned operation based on intelligence inputs.

As security forces conducted an area domination patrol in the region, a suspect, upon noticing their presence, abandoned the contraband and fled the scene. The recovered substance, identified as high-grade Number 4 heroin, was swiftly confiscated and handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation. The search for those involved in the smuggling operation is currently underway.

Mizoram continues to be a critical transit route for narcotics traffickers, particularly due to its porous international border. In recent months, security agencies have ramped up their surveillance efforts to curb the illicit trade, leading to multiple high-value seizures. Assam Rifles, often hailed as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast,’ remains at the forefront of anti-smuggling operations, working in close coordination with state police and central agencies to dismantle trafficking networks.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the region, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance along vulnerable border points. The latest seizure is seen as a strong message to traffickers, reinforcing the government’s resolve to curb the inflow of illicit substances into the country.
