Manipur Police Arrest Multiple Militants and Drug Peddlers in Statewide Crackdown

Imphal: In a major security operation, Manipur Police arrested multiple individuals linked to militant outfits and drug trafficking on February 20, highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and organized crime.

An active cadre of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) was arrested from Chingyang Lairenbi Ima Keithel, Ngariyan Ching, under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district. The arrested militant, identified as 30-year-old Hemam Bebeshwor Singh, was reportedly involved in extortion from the general public, government officials, and private firms to fund the banned outfit. Security forces recovered a backpack, camouflage combat clothing, military boots, two mobile phones, and a wallet from his possession.

In another operation, police nabbed a militant of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP – City Meitei) from Ibudhou Khonghaba Thangjing Laikon, Ngaikhong Khullen, under Bishnupur Police Station. The accused, Khaidem Benarrjit Singh (28), was found with two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card.

In a separate anti-narcotics operation near Sericulture Gate No. 2, Kwakta Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district, security forces apprehended two individuals—Moichingmayum Farid (28) and Md. Amar Shah (29). Authorities recovered suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 1.87 kg from their possession, dealing a significant blow to the region’s drug trade.

Additionally, on February 19, security personnel arrested a 21-year-old Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) cadre, Md. Harish, from Pheidinga under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district.

The recent wave of arrests underscores the intensified security measures undertaken by law enforcement agencies in Manipur to tackle insurgency and drug-related crimes. The crackdown is expected to continue as authorities remain vigilant against rising threats to law and order in the state.
