Tripura Sundari Devi Temple Undergoes Major Upgradation to Boost Spiritual Tourism

Agartala: The historic Tripura Sundari Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has undergone a significant transformation with extensive renovations, beautification, and enhanced facilities for devotees. The development project, nearing completion, aims to elevate the temple’s infrastructure while preserving its centuries-old spiritual significance.

Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Bhaskar Das Gupta shared that the project falls under the PRASHAD and Swadesh Darshan schemes, with a total funding of ₹33 crore, supplemented by an additional ₹9 crore from the state government. The redevelopment includes five key components, such as the renovation of the temple premises, construction of two toilet blocks, a changing room, and other essential infrastructure to improve the experience for visitors.

As part of the upgrade, a three-storied structure has been added to the temple complex, featuring a basement area with stalls selling local delicacies like ‘Pera.’ Additional facilities include office rooms, guest rooms, a meditation hall, and dining spaces. These improvements aim to accommodate the temple’s massive daily footfall of 30,000 to 40,000 devotees, which soars to nearly 4 lakh during Deepawali.

Originally built around 1500 AD by King Dhanya Manikya, the temple continues to uphold the traditions established by the Manikya dynasty of the Chandra Vangsha lineage. Mata Tripura Sundari, regarded as the Kul Devi (family deity) of Tripura, is venerated across India, making the temple a major pilgrimage destination.
