Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh Promotes Youth Development Through Sports

Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh reaffirmed his commitment to youth development through the ‘Catch Them Young’ initiative, emphasizing that sports serve as a unifying force that instills discipline, resilience, and good health.

Addressing the inauguration of the 4th Master Boys and Girls Boxing Championship and the 1st State Level Blue Cubs Baby League at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Thursday, Singh acknowledged that youth have been the most affected by the state’s ongoing unrest. Urging them to channel their energy into sports rather than anti-social activities, he stressed the transformative power of athletics in shaping character and fostering a sense of purpose.

Singh also highlighted Manipur’s rich sporting legacy, which has produced Olympic medalists and international champions. He reiterated the Manipur Police Department’s long-standing support for sports, with over 400 athletes in its ranks, including renowned names such as Mary Kom, Sarita Laishram, and Mirabai Chanu.

He emphasized that sports offer an alternative path for youth, promoting discipline, teamwork, and goal-oriented growth. His remarks reinforced the state’s commitment to nurturing young talent and sustaining Manipur’s reputation as a powerhouse in Indian sports.
