Assam Police Arrests 10 in Connection with Attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain

Guwahati: The Assam Police have arrested 10 individuals in connection with the alleged attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain in Nagaon on February 20.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the arrested individuals on his official X handle, assuring that the police will take strict legal action against them.

“The police have identified the individuals involved in the alleged incident of assault on Congress MP Sri Rakibul Hussain,” CM Sarma wrote.

The identified suspects are:

  1. Harun (Jamtola)
  2. Haresh (Fakoli)
  3. Basir (Tamulitup)
  4. Kasem Ali (Kawoimari)
  5. Rosidul (Kawoimari)
  6. Ayub (Gunabari)
  7. Lutkior (Rail Station)
  8. Khaleque (Rowmari)
  9. Mojibur (Gorematikhowa)
  10. Jahangir (Koachgaon)

The Congress MP was attacked by masked assailants at Natun Bazar while traveling to Gunabari for a Congress workers’ meeting.

Eyewitnesses reported that a group of individuals covered their faces with black cloth and waved black flags before launching a violent assault on Hussain and his security personnel. His bodyguard was also attacked, further escalating tensions in the area.

The police continue to investigate the incident, and authorities have assured that all responsible individuals will face legal consequences.
