Assam Congress Leader Condemns Attack on MP Rakibul Hussain, Calls for Swift Action

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Garjon Muchahary has strongly condemned the attack on Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain in Nagaon on February 20, calling it a direct threat to political stability and security in the state.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, Muchahary highlighted the growing risks faced by political leaders, particularly those from the Congress, and urged immediate intervention to prevent further escalation.

The senior Congress leader stressed the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard politicians amid rising political tensions. He underscored that such attacks not only endanger individuals but also set a dangerous precedent that could destabilize democratic discourse.

Calling for swift justice, Muchahary demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bolster security arrangements for Hussain and other Congress leaders across the state.

Meanwhile, the attack has also drawn sharp criticism from the North-East Minorities Students’ Union (NEMSU). Its President, Badrul Islam, strongly denounced the assault on MP Hussain, his son, and his security personnel. Taking a hard stance, Islam urged authorities to take the strictest action against the perpetrators, going so far as to demand an encounter against those involved.

The incident has ignited political outrage, with Congress leaders and allied organizations calling for stringent measures to prevent such attacks in the future. As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on the administration to take decisive action against the assailants and reinforce the safety of public representatives in Assam.
