Gitashree Tamuly to Receive Courage Award; SC Students’ Association Demands Probe into APS Appointment

The Scheduled Caste (SC) Students’ Association has announced that Gitashree Tamuly, wife of MLA Akhil Gogoi, will be honored with the Courage Award for her steadfast commitment to integrity. The award ceremony is set to take place on March 1 at the historic Sivadoul premises in Sivasagar, recognizing Tamuly’s dedication to maintaining a clean and transparent image.

The association expressed its appreciation for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, crediting his zero-tolerance policy against corruption for creating an environment where individuals like Tamuly could stand firm in their principles.

During the announcement, Parash Jyoti Das, Central General Secretary of the association, encouraged those facing corruption allegations to display similar courage by voluntarily calling for investigations against themselves, setting a precedent for accountability.

Meanwhile, the SC Students’ Association has voiced concerns over the appointment of Sushanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister’s brother, in the Assam Police Service (APS). Calling the selection process “completely unethical,” the association has demanded a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and fairness in government appointments.
