PM Modi Arrives in Guwahati Amid Enthusiastic Welcome, Set to Witness Historic Jhumur Dance Performance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati today to a rousing reception, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma leading the welcome at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Expressing his excitement on social media platform X, Sarma hailed Modi as “the world’s most popular leader” and emphasized his vision for building a “Viksit Assam.”

The Prime Minister’s visit comes ahead of a grand cultural showcase, where ambassadors from 60 countries will witness a historic Jhumur dance performance featuring over 8,500 youth from Assam’s tea garden communities. The ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ event, scheduled for February 24 at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium, marks a significant moment for Assam’s cultural heritage on the global stage.

Chief Minister Sarma, who has been personally overseeing preparations, announced cash incentives for all performers, acknowledging their dedication in showcasing the rich traditions of Assam. He also highlighted the presence of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar alongside global dignitaries, underscoring the international significance of the event.

With the stage set for this massive cultural spectacle, Assam is poised to captivate the world, celebrating its unique heritage while reinforcing its growing prominence on the national and global map.
