Assam: Forest Officials Crack Down on Illegal Sawmill in Dhubri
Assam: In a decisive action against illegal timber processing, forest officials in Dhubri seized an unauthorized band saw mill operating in the Paglahat area on February 25. The operation was part of the ongoing crackdown on deforestation and unauthorized timber activities in the region.
Led by Safiqur Rahman, Range Officer of the Forest Check Station Range, and Jibesh Ch Roy, Range Officer of the Protection Squad, Dhubri, the forest department team swiftly dismantled the sawmill. Acting on a tip-off, officials intervened before further illegal processing of timber could take place.
Authorities have issued a strict warning against individuals involved in illegal sawmill operations and timber smuggling, stating that legal action will be taken against violators. Further investigations are underway to identify those responsible for running the mill.
The seizure marks a significant step in the state’s forest conservation efforts, aligning with broader strategies to combat environmental crimes and protect Assam’s natural resources.
