Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati on February 25, underscored Assam’s crucial role in India’s development trajectory. He praised the state’s economic progress, infrastructure expansion, and strategic importance in global trade, positioning it as a gateway to East Asia.
Speaking at the summit, PM Modi hailed Assam’s potential, emphasizing its role in driving India’s growth. “Advantage Assam is a remarkable initiative that places the state on the global stage. The Northeast is poised to lead India’s development, and I commend Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his team for this grand event,” he stated. Reflecting on his 2013 election campaign in Assam, he recalled his vision of making ‘A for Assam’ a key reference in India’s success story.
Highlighting infrastructure advancements, the Prime Minister pointed out the rapid expansion of connectivity in the state. “Before 2014, only three bridges spanned the Brahmaputra, but in the last decade, we have built four new bridges, including one named after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Assam’s railway budget, which stood at ₹2,100 crore between 2009-2014, has now surged to ₹10,000 crore,” he stated.
Addressing economic transformation, PM Modi cited Assam’s GDP growth, which has doubled from ₹3 lakh crore in 2018 to ₹6 lakh crore today. He attributed this success to the double-engine government and India’s broader economic reforms. Additionally, he highlighted India’s expanding global trade, referencing free trade agreements and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, which are opening new opportunities for investment.
Speaking on India’s growing global stature, PM Modi stressed the nation’s economic resilience amid global uncertainties. “The world trusts India’s skilled youth, its aspirational middle class, its political stability, and its reform-driven governance. Our focus is on long-term, sustainable growth that will shape India’s future for the next 25 years,” he affirmed.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit is expected to attract major investments, accelerating Assam’s economic and infrastructural transformation while reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s growth story.
