Guwahati: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized 2,40,000 Yaba tablets worth ₹24 crore in Tripura over two consecutive days.

On February 26, acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs intercepted an unclaimed baggage aboard Train No. 12098 (Shatabdi Express) at Ambassa, Dhalai District. A thorough search led to the recovery of 1,50,000 Yaba tablets, valued at ₹15 crore in the international market. The seized contraband was handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings.

In another operation on February 27, a joint team of Assam Rifles and DRI intercepted a goods truck (No. TR 01 AU 1710) loaded with cement bags coming from Shillong at Teliamura, Tripura. Upon inspection, 90,000 Yaba tablets, worth ₹9 crore, were recovered. One individual, a resident of Belonia, South Tripura, was apprehended, and the contraband was handed over to DRI for further investigation.

Assam Rifles emphasized that these successful seizures are part of their ongoing mission to combat drug trafficking and align with the state government’s ‘Nasha Mukt Tripura’ initiative. Notably, since January 2025, Assam Rifles has conducted 21 successful operations, leading to the recovery of contraband worth ₹95.56 crore. The relentless crackdown has significantly disrupted cross-border drug cartels, dealing a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.
