Manipur Government Mulls Re-Examinations After Class X, XII Question Paper Leaks
Imphal: The Manipur government is considering re-examinations for Class X and XII subjects following the recent leakage of question papers on social media, raising concerns over the integrity of the ongoing board examinations.
Secretary of Education (S), N Praveen, stated that the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) will soon decide on re-examinations for the affected subjects.
The leaks were first detected on February 25, when the Social Science question paper for the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) surfaced on WhatsApp 30 minutes before the exam. Similarly, the Physics question paper for Class XII was leaked just half an hour before the exam on March 3. Terming the incidents as “extremely unfortunate,” Praveen emphasized that such acts undermine students’ hard work and erode public trust in the examination system.
Following a swift investigation, police arrested two individuals in connection with the Class XII Physics paper leak. Identified as Maibam Sunil Singh, a Physics teacher at Paradise English School, Thoubal, and Ningombam Jagdish Singh, a Chemistry teacher at the same institution, both were arrested on March 3 and 4, 2025. The Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur, which registered a case, seized mobile phones and other incriminating evidence from their possession.
In a separate operation, two more teachers from Thoubal were arrested on March 2 for their involvement in the HSLCE Social Science paper leak. The education secretary warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved, with offenders facing a minimum punishment of five years in jail or a fine of at least ₹10 lakh. Examination centers found responsible may also face blacklisting from future exams.
With investigations ongoing, the education department has left the final decision on re-examinations to the examination committees, which are expected to announce their decision soon. Meanwhile, the government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair and transparent examinations, urging all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity of the education system.
