Massive Ganja Haul Seized at Guwahati Railway Station, Two Nagaland men Arrested
Guwahati: Guwahati Railway Station witnessed a significant drug seizure on Tuesday night, as the Government Railway Police (GRP) intercepted a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis. The operation, conducted at approximately 9:40 PM on March 4, 2025, resulted in the recovery of 34 packets of ganja, totaling 35.1 kilograms.
The contraband was discovered during a routine inspection of Train No. 15909 DN Avadh Assam Express, which was en route from Dimapur to New Delhi. GRP personnel located the narcotics hidden within three trolley bags in Coach No. H1 of the train.
Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the smuggling attempt. The arrested persons have been identified as Kheboto V Muru, a 24-year-old resident of Ghokhuvi Village in Nagaland’s Zunheboto District, and N. Hotolu Achumi, a 47-year-old resident of Thahekhu Village in Dimapur District, Nagaland. Kheboto V Muru is the son of Viyito Muru and N. Hotolu Achumi is the son of Nihekhu Achumi.
The GRP has registered a case against the two accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigations are currently underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the seized drugs. Authorities are focusing on dismantling the wider network involved in this illicit trade. The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking through railway networks.
