Manipur Security Forces Seize Cache of Illegal Arms Following Governor’s Surrender Deadline
Imphal: In a decisive move following the expiration of the Governor of Manipur’s imposed 4 PM deadline on March 6, 2025, for the voluntary handover of illicit weaponry, joint security forces have conducted sweeping search and combing operations across the state.
The extensive operations spanned numerous districts, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Tamenglong.
The intensive efforts resulted in the successful recovery of a substantial arsenal, including 36 firearms, 129 rounds of ammunition, seven explosive devices, and 21 miscellaneous items. Furthermore, authorities reported the destruction of 12 bunkers utilized for illegal activities.
Significant recoveries were made in Imphal West, specifically in Moidangpok under the Patsoi Police Station, where forces seized a .32 pistol, multiple barrel guns, tear smoke munitions, 9mm live rounds, .303 live rounds, and HE 36 grenades. In Imphal East, at Sawombung – Paorabi village under Lamlai Police Station, a 7.62mm SLR rifle with a magazine, an Amogh Carbine with two magazines, multiple 9mm pistols, 5.56x30mm Amogh Carbine ammunition, 7.62mm SLR rifle ammunition, 36 hand grenades, and a .303 rifle bayonet were recovered. Operations in Tamenglong, at Tatbung village under Kaimai Police Station, yielded four SBBL guns, a locally made 8mm rifle, SBBL ammunition, 8mm ammunition, and Baofeng wireless sets. In Kangpokpi, at Khengjang village, security forces discovered SLR rifles, Pumpi guns, 12-bore cartridges, a 5.56x45mm fired case, a BP helmet, and a wireless handset, alongside the demolition of 12 bunkers.
Authorities have affirmed their commitment to ongoing operations aimed at recovering additional illegal arms and neutralizing any remaining security threats. The dismantling of the bunkers is viewed as a crucial measure in reestablishing law and order within the affected areas.
