Guwahati Eviction Drive Tears Down Unauthorized Dwellings in Birubari

Guwahati: A significant eviction operation has commenced in the Birubari district of Guwahati, as local authorities move to dismantle structures deemed unauthorized. The action, which began in the early hours of Thursday, has already resulted in the demolition of eleven residential properties.

The groundwork for this drive was laid weeks prior, with the administration issuing formal eviction notices to those residing in the targeted area. Residents were explicitly directed to vacate their premises. Prior to the commencement of the demolition, a final warning was delivered, after which a substantial police contingent, supported by heavy machinery, entered the area to execute the eviction orders.

The focal point of this operation is the Trunk Factory vicinity within Birubari. Nearly a month ago, precisely 25 days, the families impacted by the eviction were officially informed of the impending action. Despite ongoing legal challenges, a segment of the affected population has sought judicial intervention. Specifically, 45 out of the total 69 families facing displacement have filed petitions before the High Court, aiming to secure relief from the eviction.

However, the administrative action continues unabated for those families who have not pursued legal recourse. Officials have reiterated that the eviction operation will proceed in accordance with the established mandates, ensuring the removal of all remaining unauthorized structures.
