Assam: Election Dates Announced for Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council; Model Code of Conduct Enforced
The Assam State Election Commission has formally declared the schedule for the much-anticipated Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, slated to be held in 2025, covering 36 constituencies across the council area.
As per the official notification, the election process will begin with the filing of nominations, open from March 15, 2025, between 11 AM and 3 PM. The scrutiny of the nomination papers is scheduled for March 17, followed by the publication of validly nominated candidates later the same day. Candidates will have until March 19 to withdraw their names, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be announced.
Voters will head to the polls on April 2, 2025, from 7 AM to 3 PM, with provisions for a re-poll on April 3 if required. The crucial counting of votes will commence on April 4 at 8 AM, with the results expected to be declared the same day.
The election will see participation from a robust electorate of 4,45,586 registered voters, comprising 2,16,181 male voters, 2,29,394 female voters, and 11 voters identifying as ‘Others’. To facilitate smooth polling, authorities have designated 630 polling stations across the RHAC region.
To promote fairness and accountability in campaign spending, the commission has capped the maximum expenditure limit for each candidate at ₹2.50 lakh.
In line with the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced with immediate effect across all RHAC areas. The Assam State Election Commission has confirmed that the MCC will be implemented as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. The MCC will regulate political activities, government announcements, and campaign conduct until the conclusion of the electoral process.
The upcoming polls are set to play a crucial role in determining the governance and development priorities of the Rabha Hasong region, with stakeholders now preparing to enter the electoral fray under strict adherence to democratic norms.
