1571 Families in Mawryngkneng See Housing Gains Under PMAY Scheme
The Meghalaya Assembly was informed on March 7th that 1,571 families within the Mawryngkneng Community & Rural Development Block have successfully benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme between the fiscal years of 2018-19 and 2023-24. Community & Rural Development Minister AT Mondal delivered this information during the assembly session.
The PMAY scheme, a national initiative, is designed to provide affordable housing solutions for economically disadvantaged segments of society. While the program has demonstrably impacted a significant number of families in the Mawryngkneng region, it’s acknowledged that challenges remain. Notably, concerns have been raised regarding instances of project delays and the completion status of some housing units.
This data was brought to light following a query posed by MLA Heavingstone Kharpran, who sought clarity on the implementation and progress of the housing scheme within the specified region. The minister’s response offered a quantitative overview of the scheme’s impact, highlighting the number of families who have received assistance.
