Meghalaya: Vacant Teaching Positions at Bhaitbari School Await Government Approval
Shillong: Bhaitbari Deficit Higher Secondary School in New Bhaitbari, West Garo Hills, is facing a shortage of teaching staff, with two assistant teacher positions currently lying vacant. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed the Assembly that while a recruitment proposal had been submitted to the Directorate of School Education & Literacy in Shillong earlier this year, it has yet to receive approval.
The school has a total of 21 sanctioned posts, including 17 teaching and four non-teaching staff positions. To address the vacancies, the District School Education Officer in Tura had forwarded a request for recruitment in January 2025. However, the Minister clarified that the government is still in the process of compiling information for all Deficit Schools under the Grant-in-Aid (GIA) system. Once this compilation is complete, applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
The delay in filling these positions raises concerns about the school’s ability to maintain academic standards. While the government’s systematic approach aims to ensure fair processing of all requests, stakeholders in the education sector are eager for a timely resolution to prevent disruptions in the learning environment.
